Texas Judge Orders Father to Get Covid Shot to See His Children
Fox 26 in Houston reports a Liberty County, Texas man says his rights were violated when divorce judge ordered him to go get a Covid vaccine in order to see his children.
The order was issued by District Judge Travis Kitchens. The outlet reports Trinity County court records state the vaccine is required in order for the man who lives in Cleveland, Texas to have visitation with his children.
The divorce docket dated 5/10/21 gives this order: "Both parents are to get vaccinated for COVID by end of this week."
"He pretty much told me and her both that we were to get a COVID vaccination," said Chris Staley. "I shook my head, and he said, ‘I see that Mr. Staley doesn’t agree with this.’"
Staley said he disagreed with the order which was issued in the county where the mother of his children lives.
"I didn’t agree with it myself, and he pretty much told me that I guess I didn’t want to see my kids," said Staley.
Staley also told the station he believes his civil rights were violated by the order although his attorney advised him to follow the order.
The story goes on to say that Staley did not get the shot and recently had a visitation with his children. He also said he plans to reach out to Texas Governor Greg Abbott about the judge's order.
