Matthew McConaughey Swarms Dixie Chicks’ Stage to Play Bongos [Watch]
Toward the end of their show in Austin, Texas, on Thursday (April 13), the Dixie Chicks were rocking out to a cover of Ben Harper's "Better Way" when they got a visitor. Matthew McConaughey joined the trio onstage to finish out their set, securing his place at the bongos.
It was the closing moment of the Mack, Jack & McConaughey Gala, an annual event that has long helped to raise money for a long list of charities working their hardest to empower children in need. McConaughey is part of the organization with country singer Jack Ingram and former Longhorns coach and Hall of Famer Mack Brown.

The Chicks' performance was just one part of a multi-day event that also includes a fashion show, golf tournament and a Jack & Friends concert, set for Friday (April 13).
“We started our program to give kids goals, nutrition, fitness, gratitude and community service," McConaughey tells KVUE of the program, which has raised more than $7 million since launched in 2013. "And then you ask them what they’re thankful for and they say, ‘I finally got a safe place to come after school.' And we’re like, 'I didn’t even think of that.'”
Of course, for country fans, the event was an always appreciated chance to take a listen to the Dixie Chicks, who currently have no tour dates scheduled for the remainder of 2018.
"It's always fun to play in Texas and supporting this incredible charity event which empowers kids and saves lives, is an opportunity we are inspired to be a part of," Maines said prior to the event.
