Chris Stapleton Sets ‘Saturday Night Live’ Return
Chris Stapleton is slated to return to Saturday Night Live later this month. The country singer will be the musical guest on Jan 27, one day before the 2018 Grammys.
The performance also comes one week before the Super Bowl, which like SNL is also on NBC. Stapleton's good friend and collaborator Justin Timberlake is scheduled to be the halftime performer for the Feb. 4 game. The pair have a song on Timberlake's upcoming Man of the Woods album, which drops on Feb. 2.
News of Stapleton's return to Saturday Night Live comes nearly two years after he took the stage to sing two songs in Jan. 2016. At that time he was fresh off major victories and an unforgettable performance at the 2015 CMA Awards. He's since gone on to become a legitimate country headliner. Last year he released two studio albums, From A Room Vol. 1 and Vol. 2. The first was nominated for a Grammy in the Best Country Album category. He has three nominations for the Jan. 28 prizegiving.
Will Ferrell will host SNL on Jan. 27. The pairing was one of three shared on the television show's Twitter page last Friday. While Stapleton did not appear in an sketches two years ago he's gone on to prove he has comedic chops, most recently doing a duet with Chris Pratt on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
