Carrie Underwood’s Police Officer Childhood Friend Dies After Accident
Carrie Underwood recently donated $10,000 to her childhood friend, Checotha, Okla., police officer Justin Durrett, after the country star got word that Durrett had suffered multiple injuries from a rollover car crash on the morning of Feb. 11. Sadly, Durrett has since died.
Officer Durrett was injured in a single-vehicle crash on his way to the local police department. He suffered a broken neck, bruised spine and other injuries that admitted him into the intensive care unit. A GoFundMe account established in his name went into further detail: "On his way to work, he slid off the road, rolled his truck; he was ejected from his truck. Then the truck landed on him. It’s by the grace of God this man is alive. Not only alive but responsive."
Police officials said he died Monday (Feb. 26) as a result of his injuries.
In a post shared on Facebook, Durrett's department shared the news of his passing. "On Monday February 26th Asst. Chief Durrett succumbed to his injuries after a courageous battle. Asst. Police Chief Justin Durrett is a 13-year veteran of the Checotah Police Department and is a loving father of two children and a loving son.
"Please keep Justin’s family, friends and Blue Line family in your thoughts and prayers."
Underwood, who is a native of Checotah, has not commented on his passing on social media as of posting time.
