Would You Vote Matthew McConaughey for Governor of Texas?
It looks like Matthew McConaughey is exploring his options and looking at a gubernatorial run here in the state of Texas.
Politico reports McConaughey has been in touch with those on the political scene in Texas.
McConaughey has been quietly making calls to influential people in Texas political circles, including a deep-pocketed moderate Republican and energy CEO, to take their temperature on the race and to talk about seriously throwing his hat in the ring, according to multiple people familiar with the conversations.
The Texas governor's seat is up for election next year. Republican Greg Abbott has served as the governor of Texas since January 2015. Abbott's predecessor, Rick Perry, was in office from 2000 until 2015.
It's not known whether McConaughey is a Republican, Democrat or Independent. The state of Texas has not had a Democratic governor since Ann Richards was in office in 1995.
So how qualified is McConaughey? Would you vote for him? I don't really know much about him outside of his movie roles. That being said, how might he be qualified.
In A Time to Kill, he played a lawyer. So maybe he knows the law?
He played a smart philosopher in Contact. So maybe he's intelligent enough to handle the position?
Then, in The Wolf of Wall Street, he was a stock broker. So maybe he's good with money and can handle the finances for the state of Texas?
And besides his films, there's this. He likes Whataburger in San Angelo. We know this because he stopped through one here in town a couple years ago.
