United Nations Says Texas "Will Have to be Less Dependent on Oil

Texas is the leading crude oil producer in the United States. The industry accounts for hundreds of thousands of jobs in the state with many out here in West Texas. And now the United Nations Secretary General is calling for Texas to reduce its dependence on oil and gas.

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres says Texas will need to refocus its energy efforts to more "renewable energy." According to WFAA-TV:

“If Texas wants to remain prosperous in 2050 or 2070, Texas will have to diversify its economy and Texas will have to be less dependent on oil and gas,” Guterres said. “It has all the conditions to be – because of the weather in Texas – a leading state in renewable energy in the US,” he added.

Guterres goes on to say in the story that "with things changing, the green economy will tend to be preponderant in the future.”

So, do these "renewable energy" sources have a great track record in Texas at this point? We only have to go back to last February during massive blackouts in the state when Governor Greg Abbott went on national TV saying that fossil fuels are necessary for our power grid.

It was pointed out by some that the governor was misguided in blaming green energy in his comments, but you still must wonder if warm days with little wind like today can have an effect on the state's power grid.
