Overnight Camping Resumes For Texas State Parks Just In Time For Summer
Starting this Wednesday May 27, overnight reservations will reopen for Texas state parks just in time for your summer trips.
The announcement was made Tuesday by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department saying that visitors can make reservations for arrivals between June 1 and Sept. 7.

I could understand the frustrating wait for those trying to plan summer vacations, but here's your opportunity to get back on track. Texas state parks were closed in early April as part of Governor Greg Abbott’s initial plan to close state operations in order to curb the spread of COVID-19.
Reservations can be made online at www.texasstateparks.org or by calling 512-389-8900. Visitors, including annual pass holders, will need to pre-purchase day passes and overnight reservations in advance.
There are a few guidelines you'll be required to keep in mind when visiting state parks including:
- Masks and face coverings are strongly encouraged in state parks, but not required.
- Six-foot social distancing is required.
- No groups larger than five people are allowed, except for families or people living in the same household.
“No one is more pleased than us to welcome more outdoor enthusiasts back into state parks as part of the continued reopening of Texas,” Carter Smith, executive director of TPWD, said in a news release. “Our careful and deliberate approach to phasing in the reopening has served our visitors, volunteers, and staff well as we have continued our emphasis on the safety of everyone in the parks.
