Friends Style Show to Support Angelo State Library
A luncheon, style show and silent auction event benefitting the Friends of the Angelo State University Porter Henderson Library and West Texas Collection is scheduled for noon on Tuesday, March 21, at Southland Baptist Church on South Loop 306.
Fashions provided by Schumann’s of San Angelo will highlight the theme of “A Twist on the Classics” and will show the latest in professional and leisure attire. Cost for the luncheon is $15 for Friends members and $20 for the general public. Reservations may be made by calling 325-942-2164 or 325-224-0321 with payment due by March 15.
Style show activities will be in the Multipurpose Room of Southland Baptist Church, 4300 Meadow Creek Trail at its intersection with Green Meadow Drive east of Southwest Boulevard.
Friends President Deborah McCullough said the style show will provide an opportunity for fashion and fellowship while benefitting a good cause in the library and West Texas Collection at ASU. She noted that some two dozen local merchants have provided items and services for the silent auction.
ASU’s Friends of the Library provides resources to enhance the collections, services, programs and facilities of the Porter Henderson Library and the West Texas Collection. Additionally, Friends members work with the library staff to promote Angelo State’s library and archival resources to scholars and the public. Friends members also help provide scholarships, support exhibits, sponsor speakers, purchase library and archival resources, and provide ASU students with library refreshments during finals.
Later in the spring semester, the Friends will co-sponsor with the ASU History Department two lectures on April 4 by Texas author S.C. Gwynne on his books, “Rebel Yell: The Violence, Passion, and Redemption of Stonewall Jackson” and “Empire of the Summer Moon: Quanah Parker and the Rise and Fall of the Comanches, the Most Powerful Indian Tribe in American History.”
