ATF Warrant Suspect Captured after Vehicle, Foot Pursuit
A 48-year-old San Angelo man was arrested this afternoon following a brief vehicle and foot pursuit in south San Angelo.
At approximately 11:45 a.m., San Angelo Police conducted a traffic stop on a green 1996 Chevrolet pickup truck in the 3500 block of Christoval Road.
During the stop, the driver identified himself as Jose Raul Marquez. Marquez further stated he did not have insurance or a valid driver’s license.
During a routine records check of the driver and vehicle, Police Dispatch confirmed Marquez had an outstanding Federal (ATF) warrant and was considered armed and dangerous.
As the Officer attempted to return to Marquez’s vehicle to place him in custody, Marquez sped away and a brief vehicle pursuit ensued.
The vehicle pursuit ended after Marquez pulled into the Mendez Restaurant parking lot located at 3415 S. Chadbourne.
Once in the parking lot, Mendez exited his vehicle, disregarded multiple commands, and fled inside the restaurant through the back door. Marquez was located in the kitchen and taken into custody after a brief struggle. Several off duty San Angelo Police Officers who were having lunch at the restaurant also came to the Officer’s aid.
Marquez’s preliminary charges are for Evading Arrest Detention with Vehicle, Evading Arrest Detention on Foot, and Resisting Arrest. Marquez also received Citations for Expired Driver’s License and No Insurance.
Marquez was transported to the Tom Green County Jail without incident.
