West Central Texas Town Named Among 10 Small Towns to Visit Now
Texas Highways recently came out with their list of 10 Small Towns to Visit Now and a small town they say is known for its live music is not all that far from San Angelo.
The list covers the state from towns in the Big Bend to northeast Texas and right in the middle of that list is the town of Eden.
Texas Highways says Eden is "heaven for music fans" (I see what they did there) thanks to the Green Apple Art Center run by resident Craig Pfluger.
Nine years ago, rancher Craig Pfluger repurposed the old mohair processing factory and two contiguous buildings to create a “listening room” with indoor and outdoor stages. The all-volunteer nonprofit space gives those who visit—including Texas musicians like Charley Crockett and Joe Ely—a taste of the bucolic life the West Central Texas town is known for. After a show earlier this year, Austin guitarist Jackie Venson was introduced to the kid goats on Pfluger’s ranch. “You can’t experience Eden without some livestock and wildlife,” Pfluger says.
If you have not been to the Green Apple Art Center, you are missing out. Not only is it a nice intimate venue, but Craig Pfluger has a great eye (or is it ear?) for great music and books some top-notch artists year in and year out.
Just check out some of the past performers who have graced the Green Apple Art Center stage.
