Tenille Townes Has a ‘Sweet Spot’ for the Town Where She First Heard Herself on the Radio
Rising star Tenille Townes hails from Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada, so these days, she's typically far from home no matter whether she's touring or in Nashville working on new music. It can be tough being so far from her family, and the singer has admitted that she has some creative ways for keeping her parents close to her despite the geographical distance.
Meanwhile, however, Townes is busy making memories across the U.S., quickly establishing a history with her adopted home country. One of the cities close to her heart is Charlotte, N.C., where she heard herself on country radio for the very first time. To learn about that day -- and some of the other "firsts" the singer has celebrated in Charlotte -- read on as Townes explains in her own words.
I was in a rental car with my record label rep in Charlotte, N.C. We were driving to soundcheck, and it was like, "Hold on a second. What is that sound?" We turned the song ["Somebody's Daughter"] up, and it was playing during the daytime hours, and I was so excited.
Yeah, Charlotte's got a sweet spot in my heart, because it was the first town that I heard the song on the radio, it was the first sort-of amphitheater that I played on my first tour with Miranda Lambert and Little Big Town [the 2018 Bandwagon Tour], and it was the first time I ever slept on a tour bus. So, it was a lot of firsts that happened in Charlotte.
