The announcement was made by Jamie Akin, Chairman of the Board of the Chamber and Alvin New, Chairman of the Search Committee. Dan Koenig brings extensive chamber and non-profit organization management experience and leadership skills to the San Angelo Chamber’s top staff position, having previously served as President of the Overland Park, Kansas, Bellevue, Nebraska and Council Bluffs, Iowa Chambers of Commerce. Koenig is currently serving as an administrator for Church of the Nativity in Leawood, Kansas, a 2,200 member, 500 student school with a $5 million annual operating budget.

Search Committee Chairman Alvin New said that Koenig was selected after a nationwide search and multiple on-site interviews with applicants. “It was a pleasure to work with the Search Committee, and we were fortunate to attract some very good candidates.”

Koenig is a graduate of the University of Nebraska at Omaha with a degree in Journalism and Communications and a minor in Business Management. He has also completed continuing education training in areas related to the chamber of commerce profession by obtaining his certification in 2000 from the United States Chamber of Commerce Institute for Organization Management program, a five-year comprehensive course in non-profit and chamber management. Additionally, he is a 2004 graduate of the Ewing Kauffman Foundation New Ventures Entrepreneur Development program.

Koenig and his wife Mary have three daughters ages 15, 18 and 20.  “Our family is excited and looking forward to the opportunity,” Koenig said.  “The Chamber leadership, volunteers and staff have been very welcoming and that makes our transition so much easier.  We are very much looking forward to calling San Angelo home.”

Board Chairman Akin expressed her deep gratitude to the Search Committee for its hard work throughout the search process.  “The effort and commitment of the search committee are to be commended,” Akin said.  “This group was dedicated to the process and determined to find the most suitable candidate to head up our Chamber team. I am truly excited about Dan Koenig leading the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce and continuing our efforts of doing great things in the San Angelo community.”

“I feel very fortunate to be inheriting an accomplished, well run and proven organization with solid leadership and staff in place,” said Koenig.  “It’s my hope and desire to build upon these successes and programs and can’t wait to get started.”

Koenig will assume his duties on August 8th.
