Lauren Alaina's newest single, "Road Less Traveled," touches on a subject of high importance in today's image-obsessed culture -- and sends a message to young fans that it's okay to step away from the mirror.

"Dress sizes can't define / Don't let the world decide what's beautiful," Alaina sings near the beginning of "Road Less Traveled," but the track is about much more than just looks. Throughout the tune, Alaina emphasizes the importance of ignoring the mainstream to follow your own path, and that you should always stay true to yourself: "History gets made when you’re acting a fool," she sings. "So don’t hold it back, and just flaunt it / Show what you got, and just own it."

The Georgia native, who exudes confidence in her music and onstage, recently revealed her own struggles with body image -- specifically, that she dealt with bulimia for a few years.

“I just desperately wanted to be thin. That’s all I thought,” Alaina says. “I was obsessed with it, which, it was ridiculous because I had everything going for me. I was following my dream. Everything I wanted at the time, I was getting. But I was obsessed with this other thing that was making me unhappy.”

"Road Less Traveled" comes off of Alaina's self-titled EP, which she released last October. The project is available for download via iTunes and Amazon, and readers can press play below to hear the song.
