Koe Wetzel Gets Rowdy at Knitting Factory Tour Stop in Brooklyn [PICTURES]
Koe Wetzel brought the party -- and a bottle of booze or two -- to the stage at a tour stop at Brooklyn, N.Y.'s The Knitting Factory on Thursday evening (July 11), at a show that also included fellow Texas Chris Colston as opening support. Flip through the gallery above to see pictures of the show!
According to Wetzel, the onstage party was hard-won. The singer posted earlier that day that technical difficulties were threatening to keep him and his band from making it to the venue. "Flight cancelled to New York, find another flight with a layover in Philly, land in Philly, flight cancelled to New York, currently hitch hiking to New York," the singer wrote on Twitter. "Someone please have me a stiff whiskey ready if we make it to the show tonight."
Fortunately, the singer managed to make it to Brooklyn in time for the show, and was met with plenty of whiskey and high energy from the crowd. During his set, Wetzel performed songs off of his just-released Harold Saul High, a surprise album that he dropped on June 21.
While that project delves into dark subject matter, such as abusive relationships and love gone bad, Harold Saul High provides more than enough ammunition for a hard-rocking, blistering live set. "It’s '90s and early 2000s punk-rock meets raw, hillbilly, east Texas country music," Radio Texas, Live! host Buddy Logan says of the project in a statement on Wetzel's website. "This album marries the authenticity of Koe’s live performance with an even better look into the mind and soul of the writer behind the pen, all at the same time appreciating the wit and heart of Koe in his nature as a fun-loving dude who loves to have a good time."
