Gwen Stefani: Blake Shelton Romance Is ‘What I Thought Love Was Supposed to Be’
Gwen Stefani continues to get candid about her relationship with Blake Shelton in her latest interview. After their nearly four years together, Stefani says she couldn't be happier or more in love with her country singer boyfriend.
In an interview with the Today Show on Sirius XM, Stefani tells the show's host Hoda Kotb, "This is the most what I thought love was supposed to be."
"And it's the most pure in the sense that it's all the storybook of love," she continues to gush. "The giving and the receiving, it all feels very even. It's pretty magical and I feel really blessed. I feel like I'm bragging when I talk about it, and I am, because I'm so lucky, and it was so unexpected."
The couple met while working on The Voice together in 2015, and got together after both of them went through high-profile breakups. The pop superstar goes on to say that Shelton is her "best friend" before reflecting on the hardships that she has faced in the past.
"And it's been really, really – I just feel so lucky, because what happens is, we all go through life, and everybody has pain. We're not getting out of here alive. We all have to go through this stuff. I think I never expected, after having such a hard time – and my love was always not what I thought it was going to be, in the sense that I was like, 'Why am I so unlucky in love?'"
Stefani was previously married to Bush singer Gavin Rossdale for 14 years. Their divorce was finalized in 2016. The couple share three children together; Kingston Rossdale, Zuma Nesta Rock Rossdale and Apollo Bowie Flynn Rossdale. Shelton was previously married to Miranda Lambert from 2011 until 2015.
After the romantic difficulties she faced in the past, Stefani is especially thankful for her relationship with Shelton now.
"But I think that for me to see that on the other side was going to be this, after all that tragedy, it's almost impossible. I feel so grateful," she says.
Stefani has recently returned to The Voice to fill the empty seat Adam Levine's unexpected departure left, joining coaches Shelton, John Legend and Kelly Clarkson for Season 17.
