Check Your Meat…Another Major Meat Recall For Listeria
Sometimes all you want is a safe sandwich. It seems lately that's more of a challenge than ever before. Another major food recall has been announced by the Food And Drug Administration because of possible listeria contamination.
Listeriosis is a serious infection that can ruin your day. It is caused by eating food contaminated with the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes. Nearly 300 people a year die from the infection. It is most likely to sicken pregnant women, newborns and adults 65 or older or people with weakened immune systems.

The affected products were manufactured by Behrmann Meat and Processing between July 7th and September 9th of this year. All the products in the recall have an establishment number of EST 20915. The recall affects ready-to-eat items including a long list including wieners, cheese snacks, ribs and many others. The whole list can be found here.
The F.D.A says this is an active investigation and the list of affected products could expand and the investigation continues.
If you have any of the items, you are urged to throw them out immediately or return them to where they were purchased for a refund. There is also a toll -free USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at 888-674-6854.
If you've noticed more listeria based food recalls lately you are not alone. According to a Kansas State University food service specialist says it is appearing in products not typically associated with the bacteria. Unlike other bacteria, listeria can thrive in refrigerated conditions. That's why it is showing up in meat products, even products that have been stored properly. The most important thing is to keep up with all the recalls and make sure you if you have recalled products, that you throw them out or return them to the store.
