Angelo State Music Faculty Clarinet Recital
Dr. Timothy Bonenfant of the Angelo State University music faculty will present a solo clarinet recital on Monday, Feb. 20, in the Carr Education-Fine Arts (EFA) Building, 2602 Dena Drive.
The recital will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the EFA Building’s Eldon Black Recital Hall and is open free to the public. The program will include selections for both clarinet and bass clarinet.
Bonenfant will perform “For An Actor: Monologue for Clarinet” by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Shulamit Ran, “Two Breathing Songs” by Alexandra Gardner, “Gra for solo clarinet” and “Steep Steps for solo bass clarinet” by Pulitzer Prize-winner Elliott Carter, “Treny-Laments II for bass clarinet solo” by Virko Baley, and “Duft” by Kaija Saariaho. He will also perform “Sonata for clarinet and piano” by Olga Harris, accompanied on piano by Dr. Steven Keniston of the ASU music faculty.
The recital is also a preview of the music Bonenfant will perform at the Music by Women Festival in Columbus, Miss., March 3-4 and at the College Music Society South Central Regional Conference in Arkadelphia, Ark., on March 30.
An associate professor of music, Bonenfant directs ASU’s Single-Reeds Studio and Jazz Ensemble and performs with two fellow ASU music faculty as The Mesquite Trio.
He has performed with the Nevada Symphony Orchestra, Las Vegas Philharmonic, Houston Symphony Orchestra, Abilene Philharmonic and San Angelo Symphony Orchestra, among others.
He has also accompanied such notable performers as Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo, Andrea Bocelli, Dudley Moore, Rip Taylor, the Village People and the Moody Blues.
