Angelo State-MOAS Student Honored
Joshua Meyers, an Angelo State University political science major, was honored at the annual Eugene Scassa Mock Organization of American States (ESMOAS) in November at the University of Louisiana in Lafayette.

The senior from Miles received “distinguished resolution” for his submission to the General Committee at the ESMOAS simulation conference. His entry was a proposal to encourage member states of the OAS to create tax incentives for entrepreneurs who wish to start new businesses.
Meyers attended the conference with six other members of the ASU-MOAS chapter. ESMOAS is a regional organization founded to promote the activities and democratic values of the Organization of American States.
The other participating ASU students were Andreas Chavez, a junior from Schertz majoring in political science; Sazza Dahal, a sophomore from Nepal majoring in international business; Cameron Niblock, a junior from San Angelo majoring in mass media; Chasity Paxton, a sophomore from Cleveland, Texas, majoring in political science; Margaret Smith, a senior from Temple majoring in political science; and Perry Stafford, a senior from San Angelo pursuing a double major in philosophy and political science.
The ASU students acted as a delegation for the country of Panama, a representative member of the OAS. They prepared seven resolutions for debate, followed parliamentary procedures, debated resolutions, and approved resolutions in their respective committees pertaining to current issues of the inter-American system. ESMOAS students focused on such topics as wealth distribution, the aging population, sustainable development, hemispheric security challenges, protection of political refugees, and prisoner rights and prison conditions.
Dr. Roberto Garza, chair of the Department of Political Science and Philosophy, is the faculty advisor for ASU-MOAS.
