Angelo State & Community Chorales Concert at the Cactus

The Angelo State University Chorale and San Angelo Community Chorale will present a joint public concert on Tuesday, April 4, at the Cactus Hotel, 36 E. Twohig Ave. in downtown San Angelo.

Titled “The Poet Sings,” the concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. and is free to the public. The first half of the concert will feature classical music selections, and the second half will feature selections by award-winning composers and lyricists of musical theatre and film. 

Highlighting the first half of the concert will be Randall Thompson’s “Frostiana” suite on poems by Robert Frost. Other classical selections will include “A Jubilant Song” by Norman Dello Joio and Walt Whitman, “Anthony O Daly” by Samuel Barber and James Stephens, “Things That Never Die” by Lee Dengler and Charles Dickens, “The Poet Sings” by Randall Stroope and Richard Le Gallienne, and “Three Madrigals” by Emma Lou Diemer and William Shakespeare. 

Musical theatre songs in the second half of the concert will include “All the Things You Are” by Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein, “Long Ago and Far Away” by Kern and Ira Gershwin, “My Romance” by Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart, “Smile” by Charles Chaplin, John Turner and Geoffrey Parsons, and “Something’s Gotta Give” by Johnny Mercer.

The ASU and Community Chorales will be under the direction of Dr. Pamela Lee, director of chorale activities at ASU since 1994.
