Cinco De Mayo 2022 is upon us and there are many ways San Angeloans can celebrate this rich cultural holiday.  First of all what is Cinco De Mayo.  Many think it is Mexican Independence Day, but that is wrong.  Cinco de Mayo celebrates the date of the Mexican Army's victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War on May, 5, 1862.

It wasn't even that big of a battle, but this victory represented a great symbolic victory for the Mexican government and bolstered the resistance movement.  In 1867, thanks in part to military support from the United States, after the Civil War, France finally withdrew.

1) Use a knife suitable for cutting an avocado.  Make sure the knife is maneuverable, yet large enough to easily control.  A medium sized chef knife or Asian Santoku knife with scalloped edges work best.

2) Keep the avocado on the cutting board while cutting.  There is no reason to pick i up and cut yourself in the process.

3) Never Ever "wack" the seed with a knife or poke at it with the tip of the knife while holding the avocado in your hand.

4) Remove the seed using a spoon.

Most Important:  Don't start drinking Margaritas or Dos Equis until AFTER you've sliced open your avocado.
