The Band Perry’s ‘Live Forever’ Is Team USA’s Official 2016 Summer Olympics Song
The countdown to the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janiero, Brazil, has begun, and the Band Perry have reason to be excited about the event: Their song "Live Forever" has been named as Team USA's official song for the Summer Olympics.
In an interview on Today on Wednesday (April 27), the Perry siblings shared the news and revealed that they will be in Rio for the Olympics, to perform for Today's coverage and to enjoy the festivities. It will be their first time at the Olympics, though Kimberly Perry tells Matt Lauer that they "watch every single Olympics religiously."
"We're really excited," adds Neil Perry. "To play music and be at a place like the Olympics and the whole energy around that, we're really excited."
The message of "Live Forever" makes it the perfect Olympics anthem -- its chorus, for example, goes, “This time, I want it all / I want it right now ..." -- though the trio admits that they never imagined earning this sort of honor.
"We never imagined that we would write it, end up recording it, and then allow it to be a part of the U.S. Olympic Team," Reid Perry reflects. "It's pretty amazing."
Continues Kimberly Perry, ""Live Forever" is really about those moments that make you feel like you're going to live forever, and that really is the spirit of the Olympics. And we're just really honored to bring that song to these guys."
