Texas Bank Sports Complex will host 36 teams vying for state titles in the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation’s Youth Flag Football State Tournament this Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 15-16.
Approximately 70 games will be played over the weekend. Play begins at 8 a.m. Saturday and will continue until about 8 p.m. Games will resume at 9 a.m. Sunday and conclude about 4 p.m. Admission is $3 per person per day. With the exception of one cooler for each team’s drinks, outside food and drinks will be prohibited. Concession stands will be open. Pets and smoking are not allowed at Texas Bank Sports Complex, 1615 Rio Concho Drive.

With an average of 10 players each, 36 teams from El Paso, Burnet, Copperas Cove, Southlake, Kerrville, Stephenville, Greenville and Boerne will be competing in the double-elimination tournament. San Angelo will be represented in all three age divisions. In the 8 and younger division, the Titans, Eagles, Chargers and Chiefs will be competing. Seven local teams are playing in the 10U division: the Texans, Cougars, Eagles, Cowboys, Tigers and Wildcats, and the Miles Bulldogs. In the 12U division, the Texans, Chargers and Falcons will be playing for the trophy.

The state tournament is an open tournament, meaning any team registered through TAAF is eligible to compete. TAAF is a nonprofit organization that promotes, organizes and conducts amateur athletics across Texas. This is the first time in recent memory the City of San Angelo’s Recreation Division has hosted a TAAF championship.

“To paraphrase the old ‘Monday Night Football’ opening, we are ready for some football!” City Recreation Supervisor OJ Williams said. “This is an exciting opportunity for San Angelo to showcase itself to the state’s athletic community and to prove our city and Texas Bank Sports Complex are top-notch hosts for statewide competitions. We’re looking forward to wowing our guests.”
