On 11/17/2013 at approximately 6:50 p.m., Officer M. Hawthorne and Officer D. Welch were dispatched to Wal-Mart at 5501 Sherwood Way.  Wal-Mart personnel had detained a suspected shoplifter who was actively resisting them.
The shoplifter had concealed items on his person and was attempting to exit the store without paying for the items.  When Officer Hawthorne and Officer Welch arrived, the suspect, who was later identified as Rosendo Rodriguez, continued to resist.  After a short struggle, the Officers were able to secure Rodriguez in handcuffs.

A search of Rodriguez resulted in finding approximately $175 of stolen Wal-Mart merchandize that was returned to Wal-Mart.  Also during the search of Rodriquez, Officers located a small bag containing a white crystal like substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine.  A pipe commonly used for smoking narcotics was also located on Rodriguez.

Rosendo Rodriguez was transported to the Tom Green County Jail and charged with State Jail Felony Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1 and Misdemeanor Class B Theft. Rodriguez was also issued a citation for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
