The news that former First Lady Barbara Bush passed away at the age of 92 hit the nation Tuesday (April 17). Among the first country music notables to acknowledge her passing was Brad Paisley, who posted a touching and straightforward recognition of her life's influence on his social media accounts.

"This nation owes this woman a huge debt for her wisdom, guidance, and love. Rest in peace my friend. What an incredible & inspiring life you lived Barbara Bush. Thank you for your friendship and so many memories."

Paisley has met with the Bush family several times over the years, with the most recent being last month—where he shared lunch with George H.W. Bush and admired the festive shamrock socks the former president was wearing to commemorate St. Patrick's Day.

Barbara Bush died in her home in Houston on Tuesday at the age of 92. She had been in declining health for some time and recently decided not to seek further treatment. She and her husband, the aforementioned George H.W. Bush, celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary in early January. She leaves behind five children, 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
