Birthdays And Anniversaries For March 2nd + Read Across America Day

If this is your birthday, congratulations.  You are sharing this date with two country music artists.  Doc Watson, born in Deep Gap, North Carolina, in 1923. A blind acoustic guitarist, he joins The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band on its "Will The Circle Be Unbroken" album and collects seven Grammy awards.  Also on this date, Restless Heart's Larry Stewart is born in Paducah, Kentucky, in 1959. He sings lead on the band's singles in the 1980s before going solo in 1992. He scores one hit on his own with "Alright Already," then returns to the band when it re-forms in 1998.  Happy 56th, Larry. 

It's National Read Across America Day!

This annual event is part of Read Across America, an initiative on reading, created by the National Education Association. It has been celebrated on March 2nd, (the birthday of Dr. Seuss), since 1998.

It is observed by school systems all over America. It is a motivational and awareness day to encourage all children and youth, to celebrate reading.
