Angelo State Ranks in ‘Best of the Best’ Veteran-Friendly Schools
For the second straight year, Angelo State University has been named one of the Top Veteran-Friendly Schools in the nation by U.S. Veterans Magazine in its “2015 Best of the Best” rankings. You can view the complete list here.
ASU is one of only 157 colleges and universities on the list and one of 10 Texas schools to earn the “Best of the Best” designation. The magazine also ranks veteran-friendly companies, franchises, supplier diversity programs and law enforcement agencies, among others.
According to the U.S. Veterans Magazine website, “The annual review is an evaluation of the nation’s employers, initiatives, government agencies and educational institutions. These nonbiased studies are valuable resources for jobseekers, business owners, students, consumers, senior management, business associations, employment agencies and consumer groups.”
ASU President Brian J. May said, “Unlike our other national military- and veteran-friendly designations, this one is the result of an independent evaluation rather than a self-survey. We work hard to make sure our military and veteran students and their families have the services and programs they need to both transition to college life and succeed in their education. To be independently recognized for that is an outstanding acknowledgement of our efforts.
ASU’s Veterans Educational and Transitional Services (VETS) Center was opened in the Houston Harte University Center in 2012. The VETS Center provides enrollment and academic support for military and veteran students, as well as special programs, networking opportunities, social and study areas, and a computer lab.
The other Texas schools on the “Best of the Best” list are Central Texas College, Texas A&M University, Texas A&M-San Antonio, Texas Tech University, University of Texas, UT-Arlington, UT-El Paso, UT-Tyler and University of the Incarnate Word.
