‘Westworld’ Season 3 Premieres in 2020 on HBO
With Game of Thrones going away in the near future, HBO will be looking to some of its other signature shows to pick up the slack. Nothing comes close to GoT, but HBO has had a lot of critical (and some commercial) successes in recent years with Westworld, the channel’s TV adaptation of the classic sci-fi film written and directed by Michael Crichton. The show has generated almost as much conversation as Game of Thrones when it’s on the air — but it’s been almost a year since the Season 2 finale with no Season 3 premiere date in sight.
At least Deadline gives us a vague window of time when we can expect Westworld‘s return. They report that WarnerMedia Chairman Bob Greenblatt confirmed that the show will return in 2020. They also confirmed next year will see new seasons for Larry David’s Curb Your Enthusiasm and the fourth season of Insecure. They wouldn’t confirm 2020 premieres for numerous other series HBO has in the works, including Joss Whedon’s The Nevers and Lovecraft Country from Jordan Peele and J.J. Abrams.
I’m looking forward to more Westworld, but two years between seasons is a long time to wait for a show, especially one as convoluted as Westworld. Will I even remember who is a robot and who is not by 2020? Probably not. But hey, only having vague memories of what happened previously makes it easier to surprise me with a new funky temporal structural. So that’s good, I guess.
