If you have never heard of a rattlesnake roundup, you're missing out on a big Texas event. This one in particular is not only known here, but around the world.

This year is the 64th Annual World’s Largest Rattlesnake Roundup and will take place from March 11th-13th, 2022. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children.

When you go it is something like you have never seen before. They have live music, cook-offs, vendors, a carnival and so much more. You can even go on guided hunts to find snakes. You can see the full event list at the official website.

When I went to the roundup back when I worked in Abilene, I met people from all across the United States and even the world. They said it's something that has always been on their bucket list. It's crazy that we can just drive a couple of hours for it when other people travel even further.

The event is not only helpful and fun for people who want to learn more about rattlesnakes and research, but it's also great for Sweetwater's economy. It brings people to their hotels, restaurants, shops and gas stations. Each year, the rattlesnake roundup makes the local economy around $8 million dollars and brings around 11,000 people to town.

Back when I worked for KRBC News, I actually got to go out to the event with Miss Texas and Miss Snake Charmer to see the royal treatment. Below is that video where you can get an inside look at the event.

The 64th Annual World's Largest Rattlesnake Roundup happens at the Nolan County Coliseum, located at 220 Coliseum Drive in Sweetwater, Texas. You can find out more information at their website.
