STEAM Central will be located in the basement of Stephens Central Library and will have one full-time employee.  The dedicated space will provide seven areas for creativity and collaboration: general tools, textiles, graphic design, robotics/electronics, video production/photography, 3D printing/laser cutting, and arts and crafts.

STEAM Central will provide classes in all areas, certification on equipment, and CE credits in conjunction with Howard College, as well as outreach to area schools and after school organizations.  The grant is a partnership endeavor with local organizations: Angelo State University Civil Engineering Department, Region XV Education Service Center, Howard College, San Angelo Museum of Fine Art, Concho Valley Workforce Development Board, San Angelo TAME, Tom Green County 4H, and Girl Scouts of Central Texas.

The grant funds are from the Institute of Museum and Library Services and was awarded by the Texas State Library and Archives Commission.  Wanda Green who wrote the grant, will oversee the project and expects the Makerspace to be ready for its first projects by March of 2017.
