Flu season is upon us, and during the pandemic, now is the best time to get your flu shot.

Luckily Shannon Hospital is set to have several drive-thru flu shot clinics in September.

The clinics will be held:

Sept. 19 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Sept. 21-25 from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m

Sept. 26 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

All will be located in the Foster Field parking lot at the corner of South Jackson Street and University Avenue.

The clinics are open to all ages and families.

The clinic will cost $35, but they will accept insurance.

Patients are being asked to wear a mask but no appointment is necessary.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends:

Getting the vaccine before December is best as it ensures the protective antibodies are in place before flu activity is at its highest. The flu shot is an activated vaccine that contains the killed virus and is given with a needle. Flu vaccines cause antibodies to develop in the bodies and they provide protection again the influenza virus infection.

This vaccine is good for anyone 6 months or older, and can be taken by anyone with chronic medical conditions such as asthma, diabetes or heart disease.
