The San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts issued a press release today (Wed, Nov 10th) inviting everyone to celebrate "Miracle on Oakes Street, including the 10th Annual Christmas at the Coop Exhibit this Holiday Season.

The press release reads as follows:

The San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts will host the Miracle on Oakes Event Thursday, December 9th , Saturday December 11th and Thursday December 16th on Oakes Street, located directly in front of The San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts. They say everything is bigger in Texas. Another more seasonally appropriate phrase states; everything Christmas is bigger in San Angelo. Nothing in Texas shines brighter than this city in December. Our traditions bring in thousands of visitors from neighboring communities. They are welcomed on arrival by an abundance of holiday lights and warm smiles. Events such as Christmas at Fort Concho, The Railroad Museum’s Santa Fe Christmas and numerous performances including Ballet San Angelo’s Nutcracker add to the rich traditions that have made people fall instantly in love with San Angelo for generations. Where does the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts fit in all this Christmas culture? Why, right smack dab in the center. Between the neon lights of Downtown and the parade grounds of Fort Concho, you will find The San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts and the Oakes Street Galleries. For the last decade, the museum’s Education Department spends the first part of December hanging thousands of Christmas lights, arranging SAMFA’s dollhouse collection, displaying dozens of Nativity scenes and hundreds of Christmas art projects in the 1,000 square foot Coop Gallery. The exhibit, named Christmas at The Coop, has become a holiday tradition for many people in the Concho Valley. The free Christmas exhibit allows families to have fun, learn and engage in holiday cheer for no cost. Art activities, movies, free pictures with Santa Claus and tons of fun things to look at are part of SAMFA’s idea to thank the community and say a loud Merry Christmas! This year we are extending the Christmas cheer to the rest of the on Oakes street and naming this new holiday tradition Miracle on Oakes Street. Not only will Christmas at the Coop be open, but so will Studio Rio, Gallery Verde and The Gas Station. SAMFA staff will have artwork for sale at the Gas Station (located directly beside the Coop Gallery) live music, artist demos, NEW FREE activities with Concho Clay Studio, including glazing a cookie plate for Santa during Family Day on December 11th or making an ornament during December 16th’s Downtown Strong Stroll. Depending on the date (there are 3 different dates to enjoy Miracle on Oakes) you can see artist’s demos, enjoy beer from Plateau Brewery and BBQ from Southernsmoke BBQ in Studio Rio. Gallery Verde will be hosting Folk and Traditional Artists in its exhibition space. Miracle on Oakes Street will be open Thursday December 9th, 5 – 8 pm; Saturday December 11th, 10 – 2 pm; and Thursday December 16th from 5 – 8 pm.
