Reckless Kelly are celebrating the tenth anniversary of their seminal album, Bulletproof, with the release of a live album, and they're letting Taste of Country readers hear their new live version of "God Forsaken Town" before anyone else.

Bulletproof Live consists of new live recordings of the classic songs from Bulletproof. Reckless Kelly recorded the tracks in July and August of 2018 during a series of concert dates on the West Coast to commemorate Bulletproof's tenth anniversary.

Released in June of 2008, Bulletproof was the Austin-based Red Dirt and country-rock band's fifth studio album, and the material from the project has proven to be among their most enduring work. The album addressed a number of then-current sociopolitical concerns, including the Iraq War and the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

Katrina inspired "God Forsaken Town," the lyrics of which paint a grim, yet proud portrait of what life was like for the survivors. Though there's little left to stay for, the narrator vows he'll be "damned if I'm leaving here before the day I die."

"So let the rain sting my neck / Let the mighty Mississippi take this god-forsaken town / Let the storm in all its fury come and carry me away / Take me to that place somewhere on higher ground," the chorus states.

“Robert Earl Keen and I wrote 'God Forsaken Town' for our friends in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina and the resilience of the people who call the Crescent City home," Reckless Kelly front man Willy Braun tells us.

Bulletproof Live is set for release on June 21 via Thirty Tigers. The album is currently available for pre-order from a wide variety of digital and physical retailers.

Reckless Kelly will spend most of the rest of 2019 on the road. Check out all of their tour dates below.
