Olivia Newton-John to Auction Leather Jacket, Skin-Tight Pants From ‘Grease’
Actress and singer Olivia Newton-John is auctioning off her famous black leather jacket and skintight pants from the movie Grease to benefit her cancer center. Newton-John is currently battling Stage 4 breast cancer.
Speaking to Media Planet about the auction, the 70-year-old repeated what she said one month ago about her well-being in the face of a grim diagnosis. “I’m doing great,” she says. “It’s unlikely you ever get rid of it all, but you can live with it, and that’s what I’m doing."
Medical marijuana grown at home by her husband John Easterling is a vital part of her treatment program. The couple lives in California where it's legal and Newton-John says it's been a game-changer for her, most recently allowing her to wean off of morphine following a fracture in her pelvic bone. "It’s helped me immensely with everything,” she notes. “I want people to know it’s possible.”
The singer enjoyed success as a country hitmaker in the mid to late 1970s, before and while Grease (co-starring John Travolta) was enjoying a run in theaters. "If You Love Me (Let Me Know)," "Have You Never Been Mellow" and "Please Mr. Please" were among her Top 10 hits, of which she had seven. "Physical" from 1981 is perhaps her biggest pop hit.
The auction for over 200 items will happen in Los Angeles on Nov. 1-2. An original script from the film is among the items listed at the Julien's Auction website. Proceeds go to the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness & Research Center.
