Long road trips are staple of life in West Texas.  Let's face it, we're a long way from everywhere.  If you have a dog, it is impossible to leave them home alone for as long as it takes to get to even Abilene or Eden for that matter.

According to hotel booking platform, Justhooit , 65% of dog owners have noticed that their dog gets stressed while travelling by vehicle.

Further studies have shown that many dogs are actuallytraumatized while riding in a vehicle. Some really like it.  Others might like it a lot more, if like humans, they had a Spotify playlist of their favorite songs. Music to soothe dogs might also come in handy during the most traumatic times of the year for dogs-holidays where there are a lot of fireworks.

Believe it or not, a new study from the University of Glasgow in Scotland and the Scottish SPCA has determined the music that most soothes dogs. The study found that kenneled dogs' stress levels drop when they listen to two particular genres of music.  Those genres are reggae or soft rock.

Unfortunately, dogs react poorly to rock music, like Metallica or AC/DC.  They do seem to like Pink Floyd, though. According to the professor who conducted the study, Professor Neil Evans, the research does allow for some variances.  Apparently, dogs, like humans, have individual tastes in music.

With all this in mind, Spotify's Pet Playlists launched in 2020. Using that platform, a music professor has put together the top ten tracks you can play for your dog while he's in the car. Here is the list:

"How Deep is Your Love" The Bee Gees

"No Woman, No Cry" Bob Marley

"(Everything I Do) I'll Do it for You Bryan Adams

"I Want to Know What Love" Is Foreigner

"Dark Side of the Moon" Pink Floyd

"One In 10" UB40

"Hounds of Love" Kate Bush

"Desperado" The Eagles

"Many Rivers To Cross" Jimmy Cliff

"Love is King" Sade

Playing songs dogs like while they are in the car will help them look forward to the experience.  There is one additional song that seems to fit most dogs.  If I were you, I would definitely add it to the doggie playlist.  That song: "Baby Got Back" Sir Mix-a-Lot.
