‘Blue’s Clues’ Returns With a New Series and a New Host
For more than 20 years, preschoolers have enjoyed Blue’s Clues, the Nick Jr. series about an extremely friendly guy in a rugby shirt and his adorable cartoon dog Blue solving kid-friendly mysteries. The original run of the show lasted 143 episodes with hosts Steve Burns and Donovan Patton. In 2019, the show is getting a reboot, with a new title, an updated animated style, and a new host.
Above you can see the first trailer for Blue’s Clues and You, featuring the new star of the show, Joshua Dela Cruz. Via Entertainment Weekly, a Nickelodeon exec talks about choosing the theater actor (he’s appeared on Broadway in Aladdin) as the replacement for the beloved Steve and Joe (Donovan Patton’s character):
‘From the moment we decided to make a new version of the series, we knew that so much of the energy and magic of the show comes from the host’s ability to bring preschoolers into the colorfully animated world of Blue and her friends,’ said Cathy Galeota, Nickelodeon Group’s senior vice president of preschool content. ‘Josh’s wonderful theater background and his natural charisma checked all the boxes for us, and of course Steve’s stamp of approval only solidified our decision.’
Dela Cruz was also given the stamp of approval by both Burns and Patton, who were involved in the search for Blue’s new owner. Blue’s Clues and You returns on Nickelodeon this November.
