Miranda Lambert has Ashley Monroe and Angaleena Presley, her good friends and Pistol Annies bandmates, to thank for introducing her to her new husband, Brendan McLoughlin. In a new interview, the country star says the two, along with her security guard, conspired to introduce her to McLoughlin.

Lambert and McLoughlin met in late 2018, when the Pistol Annies were in New York City promoting their Interstate Gospel album with an appearance on Good Morning America. McLoughlin is a New York Police Department officer and was on security detail for the show, Lambert tells the New York Times.

"My girlfriends, the Annies, saw him and knew I might be ready to hang out with someone," Lambert recalls, adding with a laugh, "My security guy Tom, he was in on it too. He said to me, 'He’s here. And he’s pretty.'"

Lambert and McLoughlin got married in January, a secret they kept until just after Valentine's Day. It is Lambert's second marriage (she was previously married to Blake Shelton), while McLoughlin has a young child from a previous relationship.

"Now the Pistol Annies have three husbands, two ex-husbands, three children, a stepson and 23 animals," Lambert jokes. "We’ve done a lot in nine years!"

Lambert's interview with the New York Times comes ahead of the release of her new album, Wildcard, which is due out on Friday (Nov. 1). The project finds the singer returning to her rock-influenced roots, which she says she tapped back into while spending time in New York City with McLoughlin.

"I’m not great at navigating the city, but I’m great at calling an Uber. [Laughs] I got lost one day, walked to the West Side Highway, and my Apple Watch said I’d walked 13 miles," Lambert shares with the Times. "When people recognize you here, they don’t make a big deal. 'Oh. Hey. You’re Miranda Lambert. Like your music. Bye.'"
