Midland’s ‘Mr. Lonely’ Is a One-Night Stand Anthem [LISTEN]
The title character of Midland's "Mr. Lonely" is embracing his role as "Mr. Right Now." The country trio's new single is an anthem for a one-night stand; press play above to listen.
Midland's "Mr. Lonely" is about a benefactor of broken hearts and wild nights out: "Long live the blues / They're keepin' me in business," the trio harmonizes. "Someone to dance / Someone to party / Whatever they need, they call me ..."
Sonically, "Mr. Lonely" is in keeping with Midland's music to this point: Their debut album, On the Rocks, is full of honky-tonk-ready tracks, and this new single maintains that throwback country vibe. The trio co-wrote the track -- which features pedal steel from the iconic Paul Franklin -- with frequent collaborators Shane McAnally and Josh Osborne; McAnally, Osborne and Dann Huff co-produced the song.
"Mr. Lonely" will officially go for adds at country radio on April 15. Midland have been playing the song live in recent weeks, and are at work on their next album, which is expected to be released in 2019.
"The music that we have written now reflects us even more," Midland's Cameron Duddy tells Taste of Country. "We used our band for most of the songs we recorded because we wanted to truly feel our band. We wanted to feel live while being recorded in a room, with all of these guys knowing each other and vibing with each other."
Midland are on the road for the 2019 leg of their Electric Rodeo Tour, which has kept them on tour since 2018.
