Marty Stuart sings of colored pills, getting lost in the desert and a world that's spinning "'round and 'round and 'round" during a surreal music video for "Way Out West." The black and white images are just as mind-bending, but through it all the singer celebrates land he knows well.

"Way Out West" is a song on Stuart's upcoming Way Out West album, slated for March 10. Mike Campbell of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers fame produced the project, with the pair working at the historic Capitol Studios in Hollywood. The country legend tells Billboard he'd longed to work in that room for many years.

"It’s the finest cathedral of sound that I have ever been a part of. You can almost see those songs in the air there," he says. "It is truly a magical place."

By his own admission the album is a love letter to the west, and lyrically and visually this new music video backs that up. Wide swaths of the Mojave Desert, tall western mountains and California skyscrapers make up some of the imagery. It's all woven together beneath a psychedelic filter, with select lyrics like "the world went spinning" floating on screen to hammer home the point. Stuart tells stories of characters named Big Bill Chisolm and Hurricane Kate. His band the Fabulous Superlatives join in with a sparse arrangement but heavy harmonies. The five-and-a-half-minute-long clip is very much a slow trip, narrated by Stuart.

Way Out West is Stuart's 18th studio album and will include the previously released track "Whole Lotta Highway (With a Million Miles to Go)." The Grammy winner will continue a full touring scheduled in February and March, with shows on both coasts, in Europe and at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium.
