Off-Duty Deputies Take Down Armed Man Outside Nashville Honky-Tonk
Off-duty deputies came to the rescue on Saturday morning (Dec. 29) in Nashville, after an intoxicated man pulled out a gun following an altercation with security at a popular downtown honky-tonk.
According to Nashville's WSMV News 4, 50-year-old Kevin O'Donnell tried to rush past security at the door of Honky Tonk Central at around 1AM on Saturday after he was denied entry to the country dance club. Security staff then physically removed O'Donnell from the bar, whereupon he reportedly punched a security guard in the chest and then sprayed him in the face with mace.
According to police, O'Donnell then pulled a revolver out of his pocket after an unidentified bystander helped pull him to the ground so he could be subdued. Two off-duty sheriff's deputies from another county were nearby, and they were able to disarm O'Donnell before he was able to fire his weapon. They then took him into custody with some assistance from another security guard at the popular establishment, which is located on Broadway in the heart of downtown Nashville.
Police say O'Donnell showed obvious signs of deep intoxication after the scuffle, including the strong odor of alcohol and slurred speech. He also reportedly admitted to drinking prior to the fight that ended with his arrest.
He's been booked into the Davidson County Jail on a $49,200 bond and charged with multiple crimes, including public intoxication, criminal trespass, assault, weapon possession under the influence of alcohol and three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
