Luke Combs Ties Shania Twain for Longest-Reigning No. 1 Country Album
Luke Combs may be gearing up for the Nov. 8 release of his sophomore album, What You See is What You Get, but his studio debut is still making country music history. That breakout project, This One's for You, has now spent 50 non-consecutive weeks at the No. 1 spot of Billboard's Top Country Albums chart, tying for the longest-ever reign with Shania Twain's Come on Over.
Come on Over first hit No. 1 on the chart in 1997, going on to spend 50 weeks in the chart-topping slot. Now, Combs' first album matches that record, after debuting at the top of the chart in June of 2017.
Earlier in 2019, This One's for You became the longest-running top album for a male artist -- as well as the second-longest for an artist overall, following Twain -- when it hit 44 weeks at No. 1. Previously, Randy Travis held that record. Furthermore, Combs took each of the project's five singles -- "Hurricane," "When it Rains it Pours," "One Number Away," "She Got the Best of Me" and "Beautiful Crazy" -- to No. 1 at country radio.
After that string of chart-topping hits, Combs released his EP, The Prequel, and once again made history. He became the first artist to simultaneously place five songs in the Hot Country Songs chart's Top 25 since Johnny Cash did so in 1959. For the chart week of June 22, 2019, Combs had "Beer Never Broke My Heart" at No. 3, "Even Though I'm Leaving" at No. 12 and "Lovin' on You," "Refrigerator Door," and "Moon Over Mexico" at No. 19-21, respectively.
Combs isn't resting on his laurels: His forthcoming What You See is What You Get will feature a whopping 17 tracks (five of which are included on The Prequel), including collaborations with Brooks & Dunn and Eric Church.
