While Bob Iger says Star Wars movies are going on “hiatus” after The Rise of Skywalker, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy says that you won’t have to wait too long to see another series of movies. "We are looking at the next saga,” she told The Hollywood Reporter“ We are not just looking at another trilogy, we're really looking at the next ten years or more.”

Kennedy reassured fans nervous about Iger’s comments that while the Skywalker Saga is ending, Star Wars will continue:

This [movie] is the culmination of the Skywalker Saga; it’s by no means the culmination of Star Wars. I’m sitting down now with Dan Weiss and David Benioff ... and Rian Johnson. We’re all sitting down to talk about, where do we go next? We’ve all had conversations about what the possibilities might be, but now we’re locking it down.

Weiss and Benioff are the creators of Game of Thrones; Johnson wrote and directed Star Wars: The Last Jedi. And between franchises, Star Wars will begin its life as a series of live-action television shows. Both The Mandalorian and an untitled series featuring characters from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will premiere soon on Disney’s streaming service, Disney+.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker opens in theaters on December 20, 2019.
