Kacey Musgraves, Ruston Kelly Couple Up on Johnny Cash Poem Song [Watch]
Kacey Musgraves and fiance Ruston Kelly are the latest artists to reveal their contribution to a new Johnny Cash album. "To June, This Morning" is the musical reincarnation of a poem Cash wrote to June Carter Cash in 1970.
Musgraves shared video from a recent performance at Tennessee's Blackberry Farm. The real-life couple harmonize on the beautiful ballad, singing, "You said good morning to me / Then I sat beside you there.” Watch their performance in the video above.
"To June, This Morning" is just one of several poems Cash wrote, set to music for a forthcoming album called Johnny Cash Forever Words: The Music. John Carter Cash confirmed the news of the album to Rolling Stone recently and revealed that the project was inspired by Brad Paisley's “Gold All Over the Ground.” Paisley came up with the music for a song on his Love & War album. Cash says Paisley's session is the "precursor to this project."
In addition to Paisley, Musgraves and Kelly, late rocker Chris Cornell, Jamey Johnson, Jewel, T Bone Burnett and Dailey & Vincent are also featured on the Cash forthcoming album. No release date or official album announcement has been shared.
While Musgraves is assisting on the project ,she's also busy planning a wedding with Kelly, as well as gearing up to join former One Direction member Harry Styles on tour next summer.
