Josh Abbott believes in giving the crowd what it wants, and in this case they wanted "Old Town Road," a country and hip-hop mix from Lil Nas X.

The group of kindergarten through fifth graders lit up and stood up when Josh Abbott Band frontman started the familiar chorus. Abbott performed the song at Bee Cave Elementary School in Austin, Texas. We can't confirm it was the highlight of his set, but if he topped this reaction with songs like "Touch," "Amnesia" and "Wasn't That Drunk," we have a very different set of questions.

"Sometimes, you just give the people (kids) what they want!!! When I heard they REALLY wanted to hear this song today, I had to play it," Abbott writes on Facebook. "THANK YOU Bee Cave Elementary for having @ptonew & I come play and talk about music on career day."

A note from his publicist says new music from the country group is coming this summer and a new song will be released even sooner. Abbott's last album was Pretty Damn Tough, released in 2017.

The singer becomes the latest country star to cover the song, joining Keith Urban who did a ganjo version of the song earlier this month. Billy Ray Cyrus officially joined Lil Nas X for the remix and their song has reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Currently "Old Town Road" sits at No. 50 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart.
