Andrews, Texas --  Roughly 35 miles Northwest of Odessa and roughly 45 miles North of Midland, Andrews, Texas, is a community that can be considered to be located in the heart of the Permian Basin.  Located in Andrews County, it has a population of around 14,000 people.

Community

One thing that many residents are proud of about their small slice of Texas is that the community is considered by many to be tightly-knitted.  Family-oriented morals and lifestyle are exceedingly popular.  Many residents take pride in local school affiliations, supporting local mom-and-pop stores, and civic causes and organizations.

Economy 

Much like the rest of the Permian Basin, the economy in Andrews survives primarily on the gas and oil industry.  It greatly contributes to the local economy, with many residents working in the industry either directly or indirectly.  In recent years, the city has been pursuing attracting businesses that specialize in alternative energy as a way to diversify the local economy.

Recreation

This small town has no shortage of small-town charm.  Lakeside Park are popular hangout for locals who want to relax outside, attend a BBQ, watch a sporting event, or other outdoor activities and festivities.  There are also numerous walking/bike trails and youth sports facilities in the area.

Lesser-Known Fact

In the 20th century, Andrews became the first Texas town to implement a radioactive waste disposal site.  A decision that caused a massive controversy at the time.  The news caught statewide attention and provided a fairly good number of jobs to the region.
