San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo Brings Inspiring Rodeo Film Outriding the Devil to Town
San Angelo is about to get a powerful dose of rodeo history, grit, and inspiration thanks to the San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo. On April 8, the rodeo will host a special screening of the critically acclaimed documentary Outriding the Devil at Cinemark Tinseltown USA.
The film tells one of the most unbelievable comeback stories in rodeo history; the journey of world champion barrel racer Angela Ganter, who battled Stage 4 breast cancer and somehow fought her way back to the top of the sport.

A Rodeo Story That’s Bigger Than the Arena
Fresh off its worldwide premiere during the National Finals Rodeo, the film has already been getting serious attention in the Western sports world.
Actor Mo Brings Plenty, who appears in the film and currently stars in the new Marshals, calls the story something special.
Outriding the Devil is no ordinary movie. It’s the most amazing true story,” he says. It has an incredible cast. Some of today’s PRCA world champions and Yellowstone universe cast members.
The documentary features a stacked lineup from the rodeo world, including Stetson Wright, Shad Mayfield, Ky Hamilton, Zeke Thurston, and Fallon Taylor.
From Cancer Battle to Rodeo Comeback
Angela Ganter’s story feels almost impossible. Doctors doubted she would survive Stage 4 breast cancer, much less ride again.
But in a decade-long battle, Ganter went from what many described as “death’s door” all the way back to the winner’s circle at the Calgary Stampede. Along the way, she even coached her daughter Jackie Ganter to the WPRA Rookie of the Year title at the NFR.
And San Angelo rodeo fans already know the Ganter name; Jackie has had success competing right here.
A Film Packed with Western Heritage
Narrated by Forrie J. Smith, the film explores more than just rodeo competition. It connects Angela’s story to the larger history of the American West.
Smith says the story hit him hard while recording narration.
I remember almost choking up,” Smith says. “In the film, Angela says it will all be worth it if she can change just one life. She does far more than that. I had to block the emotions just to stay focused on the dialogue. This film will inspire you and make your problems seem like nothing.
When and Where to See the Film in San Angelo
If you love rodeo, Western heritage, and stories of true grit, this is one worth seeing.
The San Angelo screening of Outriding the Devil happens April 8 at 7 PM during the San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo at Cinemark Tinseltown USA. Director Raen LeVell will also be on hand for a Q&A after the film.
