The Highest Speed Limit in America Is in Texas, Know Where It’s At?
Texas is known for a lot of things, like everything is bigger in Texas, then there's the Lone Star State has the best Barbeque, the best Mexican food, the world's biggest rodeo, and livestock production. Texas also leads the country in revenue from beef sales, we are #1 in cattle production (Texas produces just over 20% nationwide). We're also #1 in the value we get for the cattle we raise.
That extra cash we make on our cattle in Texas can come in handy to help pay for the extra gas we use traveling up and down the Texas highways and byways especially since Texas has the highest posted speed limits in North America. While most states have speed limits of up to 75 miles per hour (MPH) Texans can swell their chest with pride knowing we can legally drive at 85mph.
LOOK: You Can Drive 85mph On This Texas State Highway
85mph is the highest speed limit and while in Texas you have the need for speed go to Austin and climb onto Texas State Highway 130 (SH 130), mind you it's a toll road and you'll have to pay to drive 85pmh legally. The best news is that this stretch of the road completely bypasses the Austin metropolitan area.
This spicy slice of Texas State Highway 130, is also known as the Pickle Parkway.
The highest posted speed limit in America is 85 mph (137 km/h) and can be found only on Texas State Highway 130, a toll road that bypasses the Austin metropolitan area for long-distance traffic. This highway goes from Interstate 35 (I-35) in San Antonio along I-410 and I-10 to the east of Seguin, Texas then north as tollway from there to I-35 north of Georgetown. SH 130 runs in a 91-mile (146 km) corridor east and south of Austin, Texas.
So, if you've got a hot ride and you've got the "need for speed" take it out onto Texas State Highway 130 around Austin. While I've been on that turnpike several times I will say it's not very scenic but it's fast. The last couple of times I drove there, it was fast and lonely, not too many folks were on it.
Nonetheless, be careful and stay alert because you will find yourself wanting to go about 15mph faster. Watch it though, the Austin PD and DPS are active on the Turnpike too. Happy travels.
