Every October, the Abilene Zoo transforms into the spookiest place in West Texas, and 2025 is bringing even more ways for families to celebrate fall. Boo at the Zoo, presented by Abilene Teachers Federal Credit Union, is set for October 11, 12, 18, 19, 25, and 26. As a longtime Zoo Member myself, I can tell you that this event never disappoints, and yes, members get a discount on the special experiences.

And here’s something extra, I’ll be out at the zoo broadcasting live on one of those days. Come by, say hello, and let’s celebrate this Big Country tradition together.

Behind-the-Scenes Animal Adventures

This year’s Boo at the Zoo includes six incredible behind-the-scenes tours. These require an additional ticket and appointment, but they’re worth it if you’ve ever wanted a closer look at your favorite animals.

Animal Ambassador Tour – A 45-minute private adventure that takes you behind the scenes to meet animal ambassadors up close. Ages three and older can join.

Sloth Tour – Find out what it’s like to come face-to-face with one of the slowest, gentlest animals in the world.

Giant Anteater Tour – Get a rare look at the zoo’s giant anteaters in their own space.

Reptile Tour – Learn the truth about reptiles while meeting lizards, turtles, and more.

Giraffe Tour – Stand tall with the zoo’s giraffes, and maybe even feed them.

Rhino Tour – Get up close with the mighty rhinos in a way most zoo visitors never do.

As a member, I’ve always loved the chance to see the animals in a more personal way. These tours make that possible, and they sell out quickly.

Spooky Fun for the Whole Family

Of course, Boo at the Zoo is about more than animal encounters. Visitors will step into themed lands filled with festive fall fun:

  • Pumpkin Country
  • Medieval Legends
  • Ghosts & Goblins
  • Reptile World
  • Zoomanji
  • Festival de Animales
  • Pirates of the NEW Caribbean Cove (making its first appearance this year!)

Kids can dress in costume, parents can enjoy the decorated trails, and everyone will discover surprises around every corner.

Why Boo at the Zoo Is a Big Country Tradition

For me, this event has always been more than just pumpkins and costumes. It’s where my family made memories, from snapping photos by giant gourds to watching my kids light up when they met their favorite animals. It’s the kind of Abilene tradition that keeps us all coming back year after year.

Mark Your Calendar
