Fort Concho’s annual fall speaker series during the lunch hour each Wednesday in September will feature a wide range of topics, from the Edwards Plateau to cowboy poetry.

Admission to the lectures is free. Each presentation is from noon to 1 p.m. in the fort’s Commissary at 702 Burgess St. Attendees may bring a lunch or can order a sack lunch from Mr. T’s Deli for $8 by calling 325-657-4441 by 5 p.m. the preceding Monday.

This year’s lineup of topics and speakers includes:

  • Wednesday, Sept. 7: “The Old Sergeant,” presented by local historian Conrad McClure.
  • Wednesday, Sept. 14:Geology, Water & History of the Edwards Plateau” by geologist Stephen Shaw.
  • Wednesday, Sept. 21: “Classic Cowboy Poetry” by local historian Monte Jones.
  • Wednesday, Sept. 28: “Leyte Gulf and the Freeman” by local historian Robert Broene.
