Hubbard took to Instagram to share his views about how to make a difference. In the video, Hubbard talks about being a proud and responsible gun owner, and urges Congress to require universal background checks of all prospective gun buyers. In the caption, Hubbard asked people to hear him out and not make things political, but instead urged his followers to come together in order to make things better for humanity.
Subsequently, Hubbard added another Instagram video thanking his fans for supporting his passion for gun control, and issuing a personal challenge to some of his country music friends to get involved with the cause as well.
"I know we've all been affected by gun violence, directly or indirectly, and I just wanna say it's our time to take a stand, to join together," the country star stated. "I know a lot of you guys are on the fence about posting a video, but I just wanna challenge you, either re-post my video or shoot your own video, and just continue to help spread the word." Some of the country stars named in the post include Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan, Miranda Lambert, Kelsea Ballerini, Little Big Town, Carrie Underwood and Keith Urban, along with many other A-listers.
“As I watched the horrific shootings in Thousand Oaks, just a few miles from TOMS’ headquarters and my home, I was overcome with immense fear for my own children and an understanding that parents across America -- especially in communities of color -- have been living with that same fear and loss for far too long.” said Blake Mycoskie, Founder of TOMS shoe company, in a press release about the campaign.
He continues, “Since day one, our mission at TOMS has been to create a better tomorrow. Over the past twelve years, we’ve given away 86 million pairs of shoes, provided 600,000 sight restorations, and helped secure 600,000 weeks of safe water to many communities. We are still committed to those endeavors and believe that creating a better future also means helping end gun violence today."
People interested in joining the campaign's cause can head to TOMS.com to digitally fill out a postcard and send it to their state representative. More information about the End Gun Violence Together can be found on the official TOMS' website.
