Dinosaurs Storm Angelo State Mayer Museum
There aren't many kids who don't love dinosaurs. Maybe that's why dinosaurs are big business. There are so many high-priced animatronic dinosaur-shows roaming the country charging big bucks for a ticket. Some of them aren't really all that accurate. Some are full of misinformation. Fortunately, if you want to learn the real story of dinosaurs, you're in luck.
Angelo State University's Mayer Museum is adding seven new replica dinosaur skeltons to their collection, which already included eleven. Starting this week, you see them for free. The new collection includes:
Cimolichthys nepaholica or a predatory fish
Dimetrodon-a giant self-finned lizard
Dromaeosaurus albertensis-a featured raptor
Enchodus petrosus-a saber toothed herring
Holmesina floridanus-a giant armadillo you don't want to hit crossing a Jurasic road.
Megalonyx jjeffersonii-a giant sloth
Bacttrosaurus johnsoni-a large four-legged herbivore or plant eater.

The centerpiece of the exhibit continues to be the incredible, life-sized Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton. This huge dinosaur is the largest carnivore to ever walk the earth and it inspires nothing but fear and trepidation. The kids of love the Tyrannosaurus rex as it was featured heavily in the Jurassic Park movies.
The Mayer Museum also contains casts of dinosaur tracks, fossilized dinosaur eggs and 9 other dinosaur skeletons, including the Prionochelys maturtina or spiky seat turtle. Visitor can also see giant shark jaws from the Carcharocles Megladon.
With temperatures all week expected to be well over 105, and the kids already getting bored with summer vacation, a trip to see this exhibit might certainly be just what the family needs. Not only is it free, but here's an opportunity to hear the real story of animals that walked the earth so long ago, yet still hold so much fascination today.
